kinda realizing the slowness of matrix was always more with the matrix.org homeserver and not just element/matrix in general.

running synapse on a borderline anemic node, multiple bridges, all using ~500MB of hot memory. clients load instantly. wow.

Summer is starting to pull herself up and stand along the couch!! This is wild to see. She just learned to crawl literally ~2 weeks ago and is already advancing to "cruising" as my mom calls it.

Honestly pretty impressed with how far matrix/synapse has come. I initially spun up a dendrite server but then ran into issues adding appservices and running OOM on my tiny cloud server.

I spun up synapse and not only now is everything working it actually consumes less RAM (how?) and just in general is behaving better than dendrite did.

I know that dendrite isn't ready yet (beta i think), but I always remembered synapse being a ROYAL PAIN to run. Happy things have changed!

Now this is a proper #introduction

Turns out gotosocial can render everything as markdown by default! So here we go!

I really like #golang because if err != nil {} is my favorite line of code to write. I really like #elixir because :thing |> defp do ... makes me think with ~portals~ macros.

This microblog will be a bunch of dumb shit most likely. Random thoughts about tech, maybe some code since I can highlight it properly now.

Hello, World!

seeing all this talk about the "software supply chain" is just draining. instead of complaining about security as a fortune 100 company so much you could also just...donate a sizeable sum of money to the project or just pay for a dev on your team to try and help maintain it. it sounds like a win/win for everyone. the project will have maintainers, and you get to put your name on it!

...of course slack is once again the #1 memory consumer. of course. IRC version 2023 consumes more memory than vscode. of COURSE.
